Despite Black Friday promotions, high street footfall in the UK was down 4% YoY in November. The British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Springboard found that overall footfall was down 2.4%; shopper numbers fell 2.1% in shopping centres and rose 0.8% in retail parks. Early December data is also available. Footfall was down 0.4% in the first week of the month (which includes Cyber Monday). In the second week, footfall was up 1.6% at retail parks, but down 4.5% on the high street and 4.1% in shopping centres. All regions of the UK reported declining footfall, with the exception of the West Midlands, the East and Scotland (up 1.5%, 2.2% and 0.9%, respectively).
