Video service providers and content producers believe that the majority of consumers and operators will adopt UltraHD TV by 2020, and are willing to pay more for such services. These results came from a global survey by SNL Kagan and Irdeto.
64% of video service providers, and 73% of content producers, believe that consumers will be willing to pay between 10% and 30% more for subscriptions to UltraHD TV services. 88% of respondents said that they plan to launch such services by 2020, and 78% said that they would have done so by 2018. The key drive to launch these services was retaining “ownership” of home entertainment platforms, according to 57% of providers and operators.
SNL/Irdeto said that smart TVs are seen as the primary entertainment device for accessing UltraHD content – but a lack of supporting devices and insufficient bandwidth were serious concerns.
