3D Perception Upgrading nBox Processor

3D Perception offers a unique torroidal screen solution built up with metre-sized tiles. There are four tile types to support different shapes and sizes of the screen. Embedded in the screen are tiny LED emitters which are used in a camera-based system to align the projector geometry.

At I/ITSEC 2017 they showed a large screen using eight F70 projectors that are all managed by their nBox processor which provides warping, blending and color/luminance/gamma correction for content coming from the IG.

The current nBox has a processing engine that is really optimized for managing projectors with up to WQXGA resolution, but increasingly, 4K projectors are being used in simulators. The nBox can support these, but requires two DisplayPort 1.2 cables to the projector. That means it can drive four F70-4K or eight F70-Q projectors.

The new version will increase the engine processing bandwidth allowing a single DP 1.3 connector for 4K projectors, so eight F70-4K projectors can be supported with a single nBox. This should be ready by the end of the year. In the lab the company also has DP1.4 working as well so they may roll that out after that. – CC
