Eizo Highlights Custom OR Options

Eizo did not have a lot of news at the ECR although it did show us a new mount that it has developed at the request of clients who wanted a single mounting system for dual displays. As we have reported before, this can be challenging as the monitors will often have different brightness or colour. However, Eizo factory matches pairs of monitors to be within 10% of each other in terms of brightness.

The company told us that in Germany and Austria, for calibrated diagnostic use, the ambient illumination must not be more than 50 lux at the front of the display. That means too little light for many office functions including paperwork, so for some time, the company has supplied add-on LED task lights to illuminate the area below the display. There are also back-mounted LEDs to illuminate the wall behind the monitor.

The company was also showing its OR display panel system (SP2-24T-49) which combines one of the large 55″ UltraHD displays for surgery with a control monitor behind a single glass panel. As well as the standard configurations, which can include mounting in wall apertures, the company will supply custom configurations to match customers’ requests. As well as the larger monitors, Eizo has a true 31.1″ DCI-4K monitor for this application, as well.

Eizo told us that the markets in Europe are very different at the moment. Overall the market in Western Europe is broadly flat, with just replacements being ordered and very few new hospitals (we heard this on several other stands, too). The market dynamics depend on the organisation of the health system in each country. In the case of Austria, the host country for ECR, the business is done with large tenders on a regional or national basis, so for long periods there may be no business at all. In the Netherlands, on the other hand, there are lots of much smaller projects which evens out the demand over time.

Analyst Comment

At the entrance desk, Eizo had supplied a lot of monitors to the organisers that were used for check-in. That’s a low cost bit of brand marketing!
