Hybrid digital television platform, YouView, is powering more than three million set-top boxes and digital devices across the UK, the company has announced. The threshold was apparently broken last week, seven months after the roll-out of YouView’s software upgrade across its entire STB device base, earning the company the Advanced TV Innovation of the Year at the 2017 Content Innovation Awards, and Best Platform at the annual T3 Awards.
The platform is the TV interface for BT TV, TalkTalk TV, Plusnet TV and Sony Android TVs, integrating DTT and IP content through a visually-driven user interface and cloud-based data platform. The company recently announced it is one of three worldwide TV platforms to collaborate with Amazon on its video skills application for its Alexa smart assistant, to create a voice-controlled TV experience, and just launched new features including Discover and Watchlist to its retail device offering.
