Xiaomi Teases MicroLED-based Glasses

What They Say

Xiaomi seems to have confused some people into thinking it was selling some new smart glasses, but the firm told ‘The Verge’ that there is no plan to put them on sale. The glasses use a 0.13″ (2.4 x 2.2mm) monochrome microLED display (said to be up to 2,000,000 cd/m²) and were shown in a video by the firm. They are self-contained and run Android with a weight of just 51 grams.

What We Think

Given how ambitious Xiaomi is and how much hype there has been about the Metaverse, it would have been surprising if Xiaomi had not had significant resources committed to this kind of potential product. My guess is that whatever Xiaomi has made is likely to be based on the JBD display announced last year (JBD’s 0.13” microLED Display in Mass Production)

I assume the company just wanted to react to the Facebook/RayBan glasses announcement last week. Those glasses did not have a display and didn’t seem to be much more useful than a smartphone with some wireless earbuds, so we didn’t cover them. (BR)
