European VR developer VRgineers has introduced its new Xtal headset, which the company says is designed around the needs of professional designers and engineers who require superior image quality and accuracy, wide field-of-view, easy integration and data security.
Xtal features “5K” resolution, a 170° field of view and patented non-Fresnel lenses. The device also features “AutoEye” — the company’s proprietary technology which it says automatically aligns lens positions with the user’s eyes — and 180 × 180º hand-tracking.
Finally, the headset enables issuing voice commands in VR through its built-in microphone coupled with voice recognition software.
VRgineers has cooperated with software companies such as Autodesk, Dassault Systemes and ESI on integrating Xtal into their software suites. Similarly, for VR setups capable of handling complex VR projects, the company says Xtal is optimised for Nvidia Quadro professional GPUs.
Xtal is available now for purchase in the US for the price of $5,800 and will start shipping in September. The device is an improved version of the company’s VRHero “5K” headset, which launched in November 2017. Also see VRHero Headset Has Good Optics.
