Visionect Addresses EPD Signage Technology

A company called Visionect, based in Slovenia, is working to bring electrophoretic display (EPD e.g. E Ink) signage to the mainstream market. The company has developed new hardware and software that enables custom signage to be built using multiple EPDs.

EPDs cannot support video. However, they are durable, consume little power and are scalable. Common uses are menu boards in QSRs, or timetables at transit stations. Visionect’s platform is a plug-and-play solution that will work with ‘any’ EPD. The hardware board features Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, as well as localisation features (GPS). Importantly, various EPD sizes can be connected at the same time.

New server software supports the board. Written in Go, the software is designed with a user-friendly interface and can be used on both desktop and mobile devices.

With the faltering eReader market, E Ink has been searching for other uses for its core technology. We heard about a new 31″ colour module at ISE this year, before seeing it at SID (Display Monitor Vol 21 Nos 7 & 25). Visionect is working with E Ink and will soon offer support for the module. (TA)
