Virgin Responds to Sky Glass with a Dongle

What They Say

The Sunday Times interviewed Virgin Media O2 CEO Lutz Schüler who sees a challenge to the new business as he tries to turn round Virgin’s poor reputation for customer service. He said that much of the support had been outsourced to India and the Philippines and these facilities effectively shut down during the pandemic, so the resources have been moved back to the UK. The Virgin network is being switched from cable to fibre with a roll-out planned by 2028.

Schüler said that he sees network providers having missed out to tech companies in the smartphone revolution, but still sees a chance to be a platform provider in TV and other home services. Commenting on Sky’s ‘Glass TV’, he said that Virgin does not plan its own set but will launch ‘Virgin TV stream’ as a dongle.

What We Think

Hmmmm…. I’m not sure that a dongle will do it for Virgin. (BR)
