The cable operator, Virgin Media in the UK which is owned by Liberty Global, is now offering broadband speeds of 100 Mbit/s and above as a standard over fibre. The company has become the first widely-available UK provider to offer such broadband rates, and this puts pressure on BT Openreach to try and match the speed. Virgin Media has a top speed of 300 Mbit/s, which is four times faster than the main competition.
The company has also introduced the TV V6 box which supports 4K UHD and comes with 1TB of storage. The box offers over 245 TV channels, catch up TV, box sets, streaming, 200 Mbit/s broadband and a telephony package. Six TV shows can be recorded whilst watching a seventh, and the box will record, 500 hours of SD video or 100 hours of HD video, or a mixture of both.
