ViewSonic Boosting Colour Quality

At Digital Experience, we saw a projector TV demo from Viewsonic. The projector is a short throw model with a 1080p imager and is lamp, not laser phosphor based to save money. Viewsonic says this is actually a relaunch of this product, apparently because of growing interest in the segment.

The company showed it with its own 100” screen, which they described as an ambient light rejecting type using a Fresnel lens. Brightness is 2000 lumens, but the lamp has a very good life time of 4000 to 5000 hours. While the brightness is lower than most competitor, who are in the 3000 to 3500 lumen range, the price is the lowest we have seen yet – $1,400.

Viewsonic say they have a laser phosphor model as well that is 4500 lumens and sells for $3160 on Amazon. – CC

ViewSonic was highlighting high end monitors at the event. The first monitor we looked at was a new 32″ UltraHD monitor, the VP3881, using an IPS panel and with a delta E of less than two and with an option for a colour calibrator. The monitor has USB 3.1 Type C and has a ‘frameless’ design. Staff told us that the monitor would start to ship in Q3 and currently the expectation is that pricing will be around $1,500.

The company also had a 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QuadHD) monitor that is designed as a docking monitor and includes a USB Type C connection that supports the DisplayPort ‘Alt’ mode. The monitor can support charging of a notebook and while the power budget is yet to be decided, the target is 60W. The monitor should be available in June and target pricing is around $1,000.
