UEFA Announces Development of OTT Streaming Platform

UEFA, the administrative body behind Champions League and Europa League, has announced it is developing its own streaming service. Marketing director of football’s European governing body, Guy-Laurent Epstein, made the announcement in an interview with Spanish newspaper Palco23 but said that the OTT platform isn’t ready yet.

Epstein also reiterated that the platform isn’t being designed to compete with sports broadcasters but rather to complement their services. It has been said that the platform will feature live streaming from women’s and youth leagues, match summaries, past games, behind-the-scenes content and a magazine programme.

UEFA also recently announced a collaboration with Facebook to stream 32 Champions League matches every year in Latin America.

Content being sold directly from creator to consumer was one of the hot topics at this year’s IBC, although it wasn’t on our radar. (BR)
