NBCUniversal To Provide Live 4k Hdr Coverage Of NBC’s Tokyo Olympics Primetime Show For First Time

What They Say

In the US, NBCUniversal will provide live coverage of the NBC broadcast network’s Olympics primetime show in UltraHD resolution with HDR and Atmos sound in some markets. NBC’s primetime coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will also be presented in 4K HDR.

Events which will be featured in 4K HDR during this summer’s Games include gymnastics, track & field, swimming, diving, beach volleyball, golf, tennis and other sports. NBCUniversal will distribute the coverage to U.S. distribution partners, who will individually choose how to make the content available to their customers.

The Tokyo Olympics take place from July 23 – August 8

What We Think

The Olympics won’t be quite the same although it looks as though it will go ahead despite the state of emergency in Japan. Overseas fans have been banned and the number of officials and participants is around 50% down, while around 10,000 of the 80,000 volunteers have resigned their roles because of the pandemic. (BR)
