Sigmaintell has reported that almost a quarter billion ‘full screen’ displays have been sold in 2017, with nearly 200 million in the second half of the year. Samsung is by far the biggest supplier, with Tianma in China in second place. Four vendors (AUO and BOE as well as SDC and Tianma) sold over 10 million panels. The fastest growing formats are 5.7″ HD + (1440 x 720) and 5.99-inch FHD+ (2160 x 1080).

Separately, the company said that Chinese demand for smartphones has slowed following the 11.11 sales boost and that is leading to loose supply in A-si smartphone displays although 18:9 is staying firm. LTPS also remains in over-supply and there is pressure for decreases in 16:9 and 18:9. 5″ HD A-si panels are around $4.0, going down to $3.90, while FullHD 5.5″ panels are expected to go down in December from $12.00 to $11.60.
Careful supply management has meant that despite weak demand, the supply is balanced so there is only slight pressure for price declines. A 7″ 1024 x 600 panel costs around $9.50 and is likely to go down to $9.20. (BR)
