CSOT, the panel maker in China that is owned by TCL, has been building up its capacity for large LCD manufacture and has already committed to new G10.5 fabs in Shenzen, China, which are due to come into production in 2018 and early 2021. Now the company has outlined, in a release to the stock exchange that it is planning another ’11th’ generation fab in Shenzen that is expected to come into production in 2021. It will cost $6.7 billion and will make both OLED and 8K LCD TV panels, according to the filing.

We believe that this is the ‘TBD’ OLED fab that DSCC listed in its slides from the SID Business Conference last week. There are already two fabs being developed that will be just LCD. The assumption in that slide is that the fab will use oxide TFTs to support OLED manufacture, although TCL did not say that in its release as far as we could tell (it’s in Chinese) (BR)
