TCL Releases Details of 2018 6 and 5 Series

TCLTCL in the US has released details and pricing of its 6 Series TV which were shown at CES.(TCL Looking to Upgrade Brand) The sets feature UltraHD resolution, HDR and are based on the Roku platform.

The company has increased the number of zones in its FALD sets which feature 96 zones (up from 72 in 2017) in the 55″ model and 120 zones in the 65″. The sets include WCG with what TCL calls ‘Nano Band Phosphor’ to ‘nearly match’ the DCI-P3 gamut. The new models have tone mapping that TCL brands as HDR Pro Gamma.

The Roku OS includes a TV Voice Remote for controlling the set and as well as the Roku Channel, a feature is Dolby Access which gives previews and trailers of Dolby Vision content.

The 55″ HDR Pro Gamma will cost $649 and the 65″ (65R617) will cost $999 at a special introductory rate.

The 5 series has also been priced at $350 for the 43S515 43″ and $450 for the 55S515 55″ model.

Analyst Comment

We couldn’t get full details at press time, but the TCL colour approach looks like the use of RG phosphor. (BR)
