What They Say
TCL, which has previously used Roku as its high end sets, with some lower end Android-based sets, is bringing TV sets powered by Google TV to the market in its 5- and 6-series. The 5-Series will be available in 50″, 55″, 65″ and 75″ while the 6-Series is in just the larger three sizes. The 5-Series has up to 60 local dimming zones, while the higher range has miniLED with up to 240 and QD technology. Both have Dolby Vision support and the they both support HDR10 and HLG.
What We Think
It’s clearly TCL & Roku week – I can’t seem to get away from the firms! TCL will continue to offer Roku-based versions of the sets, for now, at least. I can’t remember a set maker having this kind of OS choice available before in a single design. Financial markets saw this as a blow to Roku which saw its share price drop after this news. (BR)
