Shipments among Taiwan’s graphics card manufacturers are set to decline by over 40% month-on-month, according to Digitimes, due to a sharp drop in demand for cryptocurrency mining hardware witnessed earlier this month. The publication’s sources report that many shipments have been suspended in response to the sudden slowdown. Gross margins have also reportedly dropped from 50% to somewhere between 20% and 25%.
It is believed that the market may pick up again during the third quarter of 2018, after cryptocurrency mining hardware manufacturer Bitmain rolls out its recently-announced Ethereum range.
