Survey Reveals OTT Viewing Preferences in Europe and US

Data revealed by S&P Global Market Intelligence shows that the majority of Internet-enabled households in Europe and the US prefer to watch online video on their normal television, rather than via a computer or mobile device.

The results of the survey, which took place over a year, showed that Poland had the highest level of OTT adoption with 81%, closely followed by the UK on 79%. France had the lowest rate of adoption with 69%.

The study also showed a diversity in the choice of streaming devices between users in the Europe and the US; 56% of viewers in Poland used a PC to stream online video to their TV, while only 29% of users in the US could say the same.

Meanwhile, 37% used their Smart TV’s built-in connectivity features to stream content directly, while a much smaller percentage used other devices like games consoles. Set-top-boxes were used by 31% of those surveyed in the UK, while only 6% of Polish users used an STB.

The playing field was far more level in the US, with a relatively equal amount of viewers using Smart TVs, STBs and other devices to stream content.
