STMicroelectronics has a new family of chipsets for entry-level set-top boxes (STBs) with HEVC support. The HD HEVC Liege3 family comprises satellite (STiH337/STiH332), cable (STiH3372) and IPTV variants (STiH307/STiH3302).
All chipsets in the new (ARM-based) family are pin-to-pin compatible; this should encourage design re-use among the different broadcast technologies. They are also software-compatible with STMicro’s Cannes SoC family.
The satellite devices use a new DVB-S2X demodulation scheme, enabling multiple system operators (MSOs) to utilise HEVC’s compression-efficiency improvements. As well as HEVC, the chips support HDR functionality.
STMicro is showing the chips at IBC this week.
