Sony’s UltraHD Phone Isn’t Always UltraHD

When Sony introduced the Xperia Z5 Premium smartphone (Sony Enhances Mobile Display – Will it be Enough?), we wondered how the company would achieve the ‘up to two-day’ battery life claim with an UltraHD display. After being reviewed, it appears that the phone is not always displaying UltraHD graphics. Only photos and videos will b shown at the phone’s maximum resolution: all other content, including the base UI, is shown at 1920 x 1080 (of course, on such a small screen the two resolutions are virtually identical – TA).

Analyst Comment

Running the processor at lower resolution will help to keep power consumption down, but will do nothing to help the poorer aperture ratio for the higher resolution panel. (BR)
