Sony Moves to L/P for Cinema Projectors

Sony has announced four new DCI 4K digital cinema projectors in the SX-R800 series and based on Sony’s SXRD LCOS technology. The projectors support HDR and have a native contrast of 10,000:1 (up from 8,000:1 on the current R500 lamp-based models). The models are all based on laser-phosphor light sources for a life time of 35,000 hours to 80% brightness.

The R180P has an output of 7,500 Ansi lumens while the SRX-R815P which goes up to 15,000 Ansi lumens. The SRX-R810DS has the same output, but is intended for larger venues, while the SRX-R815DS goes up to 30,000 Ansi lumens. The first two units have single projection systems, while the latter two have dual projection systems for 3D use. The units will start to ship at the end of 2017.
