Sony Merges Playstation Units

Sony

Sony Computer Entertainment has been merged with Sony Network Entertainment, to form a new company called Sony Interactive Entertainment. The new company will deal with all of Sony’s Playstation business – hardware, software, the Playstation Store, Playstation Vue and more.

Unlike Sony’s other businesses, SIE will have its headquarters in San Mateo, California, rather than Japan. It will be incorporated on the 1st April, with $2 million in capital. Andrew House, currently CEO of SCE, will act as president and CEO of the new company.

Analyst Comment

We believe that the decision to locate SIE in the USA is, in part, due to the poor console market in Japan – down to its lowest point in 24 years in 2015. In the West, however, the PS4 has been adopted as the console of choice for this generation. (TA)
