What Hi-Fi in the UK looked at the new Sony KD-48A9 OLED TV and thought that it was ‘extraordinarily good’ with ‘Striking picture performance’ and ‘Strong sound’ although it criticised the high price (£1,799 in the UK which is $1,940 + tax).
What We Think
HDTV Test also thought that the 48″ LG OLED TV was very good and it’s not really a surprise. Sony won’t be worried about having a premium price for this set as there are plenty of consumers in Europe (and Japan) that don’t want a particularly big TV – which is why LG developed the panel. My wife is very accepting of the big ‘black hole on the wall’ in our recently decorated lounge, but that is not the norm in Europe. (The Black Hole on the Wall) All of the vendors using this panel should be able to make great looking sets and should do well, albeit in the premium segment of the market. (BR)
