Sony Clarifies Lower End of 2017 TV Range

Sony TVs at CES Image:MekoSony has released details of its lower levels of TVs in Europe. The A1, ZD9 and XSeries of UltraHD sets are the same as the US range, highlighted in our CES Report (Sony Adopts Dolby Vision for OLED and LCD TVs).

There are also FullHD sets which all support HDR10 and HLG content and have dual HDMI ports;

  • the WE7 (42/49″) series which has Sony’s Triluminous WCG feature and 400/480Hz MotionFlow as well as SmartTV features
  • WE6 (32″/40″/49″) series with 200/240Hz MotionFlow and SmartTV
  • RE4 (32″/40″) are entry level models which are not Smart, but does have 200/240Hz MotionFlow

Sets will start shipping from March.

Analyst Comment

None of the new 2017 models has 3D or is curved, although the Z9D high end set which was introduced at the end of 2016 and continues into 2017 still has active 3D.

Separately, Sony has confirmed that some of the functions of the Sony TV SideView mobile app will be removed including the programme guide, timer recording, reminders, bookmarks and a number of OTT services including YouTube, PlayStation Video, Crackle, Watchme, UseeTV, PPTV and Zattoo. The features will be removed in May. (BR)
