SMPTE Webcasts Look to Content Delivery and Compression

Educational webcasts will be run by the SMPTE through the end of November, including one by our own Pete Putman! The subject will be ‘Next Generation Display Interfaces’ (30th November, 5pm UTC), examining the HDMI and DisplayPort standards; their micro versions; the formats they support; and a discussion of whether they will actually be able to support the UHD-1 and UHD-2 standards. Also watch out for ‘H.264 versus HEVC versus VP9’ (20th November, 6pm UTC), which will examine the technology behind these compression standards.
