SmartKem will be supported by the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) in an EU-funded project called Flextrans which is intended to accelerate the process for developing its Organic TFT (OTFT) technology. The companies have been working together for some time (Smartkem Assists With OTFT Development) and a group from SmartKem is located at the CPI facility in in Sedgefield, UK and has recently completed the build and certification of a Gen 2.5 OTFT slot coat pilot line within the facility.
Flextrans is a multi-party project involving several European pioneers in the display industry. It is co funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union.
Separately, the firm recently said that it is working with Asian companies to transfer the production technology it has developed to scale up to larger plastic or glass substrates and higher volume. It is anticipated that the first display products manufactured through this collaboration will hit the Asian market within 12-18 months.
