Juniper also estimates that voice assistant-capable devices, such as smartphones, tablets, wearables, computers and cars, will reach 870 million in the US by the year 2022, a growth of 95% from the 450 million currently in use in 2017.

The data goes on to state that, despite the rising popularity of smart home assistants like Amazon Echo, the majority of voice assistant usage will be smartphone-based, with phones accounting for 57% of all devices using voice assistant capabilities in 2022.

Juniper also noted a rise in the number of devices featuring multiple voice assistant platforms, but describes the current user experience of such devices as “unwieldy” and calls for developers to smooth out cross-platform issues.
