Semiconductor Market Sees Some Recovery in 2016

Following a downturn in 2015, the semiconductor market saw some recovery in 2016 with 2% growth, according to IHS Markit. Worldwide turnover reached $352.4 billion, up from $345.6 billion. Part of the reason was the rise in ASPs, due to supply constraints and strong demand. Semiconductors for automotive applications saw a 9.7% increase. The analyst also commented on the consolidation taking place in the industry. Qualcomm is still the top fabless company, followed now by MediaTek and nVidia, while Intel remains the top supplier, with Samsung second and Qualcomm third.
