Russia Considers Blanket Device Ban

Russia will ban a host of connected products from being sold in the country from 1st January, according to local news source RR News.

The decision will potentially affect any device that can access online services operating within the country. A new law states that online services operating in Russia must keep their data inside the country. Many companies’ servers for such services, such as Apple’s iCloud servers, are located in the USA.

Ubergizmo says that iOS devices with iCloud access that have already been sold in Russia could be subject to an ISP-level ban.
