Roku has added a new streaming stick, the Roku Streaming Stick+ which adds HDR and UltraHD support to match some of the company’s existing boxes. HDR support is implemented with HDR10 and will cost $70, competing with the Amazon Fire TV (Amazon Updates Fire TV, Tablet and Echo Range) and Chromecast Ultra 4K HDR dongle. The dongle also has better Wi-fi performance and will start shipping on October 8th in the US.
The Streaming Stick, which costs $50, now has a voice remote that can control compatible TVs and has 802.11 AC Wi-fi.
The company has also upgraded its boxes, the Roku Express and Roku Express Plus which now have a better processor. The Express Plus is a new $40 box that will have a composite video output to support older TVs and will be sold exclusively at Walmart.
The Roku Ultra box is now priced at $99 and can support UltraHD at up to 60fps. It also has an SD slot and wired ethernet as well as a headphone jack.
The latest version of the Roku software now offers searching across OTT sources and will be rolled out in October and November.
