Rockioo Opens Kickstarter Campaign for Smartwatch

Rockioo 1

Rockioo has opened a Kickstarter campaign for a new smartwatch aimed at exercise enthusiasts. The device sports a very modern design, not dissimilar to the Pebble Steel smartwatch. The Rockioo smartwatch has a 1.63″ OLED display with 320 x 320 pixels resolution, equating to 278ppi. There are of course all the other essentials, like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sensors, etc. available and for good measure, there is also a cellular connection on board.

The device is built on Android 4.4 but features what the company calls Rockioo OS.

The smartwatch has all the functionality of other models and adds extra components to make it light and extra resistant. Rockioo offers either tempered glass or sapphire, as well as a titanium housing that is tougher than aluminum and lighter than steel. The following image shows the breakdown of the components.

There is also a video available showing the smartwatch in action. There are some exercise activities like running and bicycling, but also some more extreme sports shown. This is to show off the ruggedness of the device, we assume.

Rockioo offers $129 as the cheapest early bird special or $149 for the standard version, while the sapphire version is available for $199. So far Rockioo has reached almost $60,000 (May 12, 2015) of a $200,000 goal. If you are interested you can find the Kickstarter campaign here. – NH
