As we published in a press release this week (SmartKem, Inc. Announces Joint Development Agreement with RiTdisplay), RiTDisplay has done a deal to use Smartkem’s OTFT technology in its OLED manufacturing processes.
What We Think
Although RiTDisplay is not already making AMOLEDs, it is not new to the idea and showed sample AMOLEDs ten years ago. In June 2011, the firm said it would go into production by the end of the year, and in 2012 Ignis Innovation said it would make displays with RiTDisplay. However, the projects didn’t get going and the firm continued to just make PMOLEDs. So, the firm certainly understands OLEDs and what it takes, so it should be a good partner for Smartkem. It is also (relatively) small, so Smartkem might get more traction than with one of the giants. (BR)
