What They Say
The 8K Association has published a report highlighting the development of technical solutions to allow the creation of 8K content and its use in broadcast. The report can be downloaded freely (although with a subscription to Insight Media marketing emails).
What We Think
This report is a very useful reference to the various specifications that apply to areas such as WCG, HDR, resolutions and codecs as well as actual devices and systems that can be used. As Andy Marken said in his DD yesterday, based on what he heard at IBC (Sharing Ideas Improves Content Production) “Even though the content can’t be streamed, filmmakers are increasingly shooting projects in 8K to capture the best quality possible and then will produce in lower resolutions for today’s streaming delivery capabilities”. However, the multi-layer technology shown by NHK at IBC shows how 8K could be streamed in a workflow that would be simpler for streamers at 35Mbps. (BR)
