Qualcomm Boosts Mid-Range

Qualcomm announced new Snapdragon 450 series chips for mid-range smartphones and tabltes and based on the 14nm FinFET process. The chip is an upgrade to the Snapdragon 435 series. The GPU and CPU are boosted by 25% in performance with an octa-core A53 CPU and Adreno 506 GPU. At the same time power consumption is dropped by 30% and Quick Charge 3.0 can charge from 0% to 80% charge in around 35 minutes.

Display resolution is supported up to 1920 x 1200. Camera performance is important in this chip and it supports ‘real-time Bokeh’ by supporting dual 13mp cameras or single cameras up to 21m. Video capture is up to 1080P at 120Hz. LTE is supported with higher speed.

Sampling of the chip will start in Q3 2017, with devices appearing at the end of 2017. Qualcomm said that there are already 1900 designs that use the 400 tier platform.
