What They Say
Protocol Entertainment said that the next Pico VR headset (from the ByteDance subsidiary) will support pass-through VR and mixed reality operation. The same feature is expected to be in the forthcoming Meta Cambria headset. Protocol previously said that Pico would launch a device with face and eye tracking as well as better displays and optics. The new headset has automatic IPD correction.
According to a Bluetooth SIG listing, the device will include four cameras “and many other sensors.” It will support dual 6DOF controllers as well as hand tracking, and the controllers will feature “wide band” linear resonant actuators “to make the haptic experience more immersive.”
What We Think
If you can get over the latency and some cost issues, mixed reality seems to me to be the way to go for the next several years. (BR)
