Philips Replaces Docking Station With USB Hub

Philips has produced a new monitor that simplifies notebook docking.

The 23″ 231P4QUPEB has a USB 3.0 port which will transfer video and audio from the notebook to the larger display and speakers (dual 1.5W). A mouse and keyboard can also be connected directly to the display. The monitor also supports ethernet connectivity through the USB/monitor connection.

The base of the monitor enables -5° to 20° tilt, 170° swivel, 90° pivot and 130mm height adjustment. A presence sensor will turn the display off when not in use. The monitor and stand are made from 65% recycled plastics.

An IPS panel features a display resolution of 1920 x 1080, with a 14ms (grey-to-grey) response time, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 178° viewing angles. Brightness is 250 cd/m².

Dedicated video ports are limited to VGA; most connectivity (audio, etc) comes through the USB ports: USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0.

Philips is selling its ‘docking monitor’ in the USA now, for $350.
