Display Daily’s Pete Palomaki has published a YouTube video in which he tears down a Vizio FALD QD-enabled TV to show how the backlight works and the effect of the QD and other films.
What We Think
The video is worth a few minutes. I was initially surprised to see how much effect the non-QD BEF films had on the colour balance, but Pete highlighted that he had not been particularly fastidious about taking the measurements from the same spot. Further, the recycling films are likely to have distributed the light more evenly over the film surface, which would have the effect of bringing more QDs into play as the light is reflected through again. The video shows a game of ‘Snake’ which clearly shows how the dimming algorithm works. (BR)
The films reduce the peak blue, but boost the red and green peaks.
