TV review website, HDTVTest, held its 2018 TV Shootout earlier this week. Panasonic’s FZ802 took home two top prizes — including “Best TV of 2018” — and two runner-up accolades, making it the event’s biggest winner.
Sony’s AF8, Samsung’s Q9FN and LG’s C8 were also recognised at the Shootout, which ranks a selection of the most popular TVs by contrast performance, colour accuracy, motion, video processing, uniformity, bright room performance, gaming and HDR. Here’s the full list of prize winners.
HDTVTest’s Vincent Teoh explained the results:
“Panasonic FZ802 has the most accurate colors, providing the closest match to the Sony BVM-X300 reference monitor. The Sony AF8 handles less-than-pristine off-air broadcasts in the cleanest manner, as well as boasting the best motion for watching sports.
The Samsung Q9FN has the lowest input lag, supports Auto Game Mode switch and VRR (variable refresh rate), and poses no burn-in risk. LG C8’s looks generally brighter than other OLEDs thus giving more HDR impact. Samsung suffered in dark scenes where local dimming could be too aggressive causing loss of shadow detail”.
Besides the five main prize categories, a list of winners and runners-up from each individual test category was also released.
