Dolby Laboratories Inc. recorded a Q1 net profit of $41.4 million on turnover of $234.2 million, which compares with a net profit in the first quarter of last year of $44.5 million on turnover of $231.3 million. To expand vehicle panel module production, Japan Display will invest NT$800 million ($25.5 million) into Taiwan-based subsidiary Kaohsiung Opto-Electronics. Sources in Asia said that the investment should raise Kaohsiung Opto-Electronics’s monthly substrate production to 450,000 by the end of 2016 (currently 180,000) and create 400 new jobs.
According to CEO John Chen, Acer plans to double its smartphone shipments this year, to about 10 million units. The company’s smartphones are now available in 53 countries worldwide.
