AUO and Innolux are optimistic about UltraHD LCD TV shipments this year, according to Taiwanese media. The companies are said to be predicting shipments of 23 million – 25 million units, reaching 13% – 15% penetration. 50″+ models will lead the way, representing 30% of AUO’s shipments; 40″ was the most popular size last year.

As many as 25% of older French TVs could be affected by the country’s switch from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4, says GfK. The firm estimates that about 10 million of the 40 million sets sold pre-2008 will not be able to decode a TV signal compressed with an MPEG-4, and will need to be changed.
