The Sharp/Foxconn merger has been approved by China’s anti-monopoly authorities, completing the final stage of regulatory reviews in the $3.8 billion deal. Deutsche Telekom added 41,000 new customers for its IPTV platform ‘Entertain’ in Q2’16, bringing its total subscribers to 2.8 million. This, however, is slower growth compared to Q1’16 and Q2’15, where the company recorded 53,000 and 62,000 new customers respectively.
Digility, an event focusing on VR, AR, wearable computing, hardware and software, 360° imaging and artificial intelligence, will take place from 22-23 September 2016 in Cologne, Germany. It will run alongside the Photokina show. Speakers including Robert Scoble (UploadVR) and Alysha Naples (formerly of Magic Leap) will present keynotes on VR and AR.
Danmon Group has finished building Scandinavia’s first UHD TV channel: ViaSat Sport. The channel is now transmitting selected live sport events in UHD to viewers throughout the Nordic region. Danmon also built an additional HD sports channel, named ViaSat Sport Premium.
Acer reported Q2 2016 net profit of NT$538 million ($16.7 million), up from NT$ 46 million ($1.4 million) in the previous quarter. Turnover was NT$56.1 billion ($1.7 billion), down marginally from the previous quarter. The improvement in financials was largely due to currency exchange gains of over NT$900 million ($28.6 million).
Compal’s revenues fell 18.5% MoM and 5.3% YoY in July, to NT$56.9 billion ($1.8 billion). Year-to-date revenues were down 11.1% at NT$406.5 billion ($13 billion). Charter Communications, Inc. has released its first half results. The company’s residential video customers declined by 152,000 in Q2’16, compared to a 170,000 fall in Q2’15.
