According to data released by DisplaySearch, the price of 32″ open cell TV panels fell to $84 in June, while prices for 50″ UltraHD (4KTV) panels also declined, with 55″ units falling 8% sequentially. The analyst also reported that 5″ Full HD panel prices have dropped 20% since the beginning of the year, reaching just $15 in June. Pricing for 15.6″notebook panels fell $1.30 month on month to $34.20. DisplaySearch predicts that panel pricing in various segments will continue to fall in July.
Weak monitor demand in the first half of the year caused a build-up of inventory, which many vendors are now having to address. The situation has been exacerbated by the ongoing Greek debt crisis and the strong US dollar, which is prompting companies to shift their focus to the US market to secure higher profits.
