IDTechEx has predicted that the OLED display market will reach a value of almost $16 billion this year, growing to $57 billion in 2026.
The market for plastic and flexible AMOLED displays will reach $18 billion by 2020, says the firm. These products are mainly used in smartphones and wearable devices today. However, when the technology becomes more mature it will be possible to use it in automotive displays.
Both Samsung Display and LG Display have announced large investments in the plastic and flexible OLED space. SDC plans to spend more than $3 billion between 2015 and 2017 to build a new production line, while LGD has committed more than $9 billion for building two new plants.
This news was released ahead of IDTechEx’s presence at SID 2016.
