OLED TVs Rise 1,600%

DisplaySearch reports that OLED TV revenue was up 500% YoY in 2014. In a media briefing in Korea, the firm said that the size of the market reached about KRW300 billion ($267.4 million).

77,000 TVs were sold last year: an increase of more than 1,600% – well above LCD TVs’ 4.3% rise and the overall TV market’s 1.2% growth. Around 4,500 OLED TVs were sold in 2013.

By region, 30.7% of OLED TVs sold in 2014 were sold in Western Europe, followed by APAC (18.4%) and North America (18%). China (11.1%), Eastern Europe (8.7%), MEA (8.2%) and South America (5%) completed the regional sales.

While DisplaySearch did not share any predictions for this year, LG Display in January forecast that it would ship 600,000 OLED TVs in 2015, and 1.5 million in 2016.
