OLED Switch Can Burn in – after 3K6 hours!

What They Say

Hat-tip to OLED Info for spotting that YouTuber Ben Wulff has managed to cause ‘subtle’ burn-in on his Nintendo Switch OLED display. However, it has taken 6 months continuous display of a static image and that means around 3,600 hours.

He points out that there is an ‘invert image’ function which could be used to reduce the effect, but he plans to continue the test.

What We Think

That’s pretty impressive and makes me wonder a bit about the pressure from Apple on the OLEDs and the desire to switch to tandem OLEDs. It makes me a bit more comfortable about my OLED TV, but, of course, that uses a different stack than the Switch and the OLED materials themselves are probably being driven harder because of the need to have enough brightness to deal with the losses in the colour filter.

The story did get me digging around Rtings.com to see if that site had continued its testing, but it seems to have gone quiet on that topic after 2019. (BR)
