Oculus has confirmed that the Rift Core 2.0 public beta will launch next month.
Rift Core 2.0 brings about an overhaul to the Home interface and the Dash virtual desktop. The updated Oculus desktop app will also include a new Wish List feature, allowing users to bookmark future titles and receive notifications when they go on sale. Oculus wrote, “You can still use Windows 7 and Windows 8 and enjoy the core functionality of Rift Core 2.0, including the new system menu Dash and Oculus Home. However, you won’t be able to use features like Oculus Desktop virtual computing, and Dash will not be able to run as an overlay on top of your running VR experience or app”.
Rift Core 2.0 also features a “Touch-First” design. Oculus has confirmed that “most, but not all” previous functions will continue to work with the gamepad, but new features, such as customising the Home environment, will only work when using Touch controllers.
