Oculus Quest 2 revealed, killing off future Oculus PC VR gear in the process

What They Say

Facebook’s Oculus Quest 2 leaks in full via official promo videosThe new Oculus Quest 2 is half the weight of the previous Quest, at 503g, and has 1832 x 1920 resolution per eye. The Qualcomm XR2 can support 90Hz refresh and the pricing will be $299 from October 13 for the 64GB option. Oculus will be going stand-alone only in the future, with no more new PC-based models (although the stand-alone ones can be used with PCs as well).

What We Think

Getting this level of image quality down to $299 in a self-contained headset really makes VR more accessible. I was quite impressed with the performance of the Quest, although I only tried the demo at MWC a couple of years ago. I’m not keen on VR as an entertainment system, but then, I’m not a gamer these days. The youngsters in my family, however, love it. Getting the prices down will help VR to ‘cross the chasm’. (BR)
