Oculus has launched a dedicated platform for watching 2D video in a VR environment, called Oculus TV. The virtual theatre features the equivalent of a 180″ flat screen, the company says, and provides access to content from several different streaming services, including Facebook Video, Pluto TV and Showtime. More content providers are planned for inclusion down the line, including ESPN.
Other platforms such as Netflix and Hulu provide similar services via their own standalone apps for Oculus headsets. YouTube is currently restricted to Oculus Rift and the possibility of support for Oculus TV hasn’t yet been touched on.
