OASIS aims to develop Standards for the use of Augmented Reality

The OASIS group has stated that it is working on standards for using augmented reality content in information products.

OASIS is a non-profit consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of open standards for the global information society. The member list reads like a phone list of top technology companies, even though display companies are absent from this consortium. The contributor list includes also a long list of universities and associations.

The consortium has initiated the Augmented Reality for Information Products (ARIP) Technical Committee and is looking for augmented reality specialists to support the development of AR standards. These will make it easier to use AR for software and hardware instructions, training programs, medical procedures, environmental regulations, functional specifications, social media and a broad range of other materials.

This effort does not seem to look at AR technology and head mounted displays, but at the development and usage of AR content. In case you are interested you can find the press release at OASIS. – NH
